Upon Skenderbeg's return, the castle of Kruja became the epicentre of the Albanian epope in the resistance against the Ottoman invasion. Its name and that of Skanderbeg became renowned throghout Europe at that time.<br /><br /> The origin of the castle traces back to the 5th-6th century B.C. Maybe this is linked with the abandonment of the Illyrian city of Albanopolis, which was mentiond by Ptolemy, as a city on the Alban's land.
